Wild-Caught Fish – Current Status and Challenges

2026-07-29 0 Leave me a message

Wild-caught fisheries are a vital part of the global seafood supply, providing high-quality protein to humanity. However, overfishing is threatening marine ecological balance. According to FAO data, approximately one-third of global fish stocks are overfished. In response, the international community is promoting sustainable fisheries management through measures such as fishing bans, catch quotas, and marine protected areas. Certifications like MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) help consumers identify sustainable sources. When choosing wild fish, it is advisable to pay attention to species status and fishing methods—techniques like hook-and-line or purse seining have relatively lower ecological impacts. Wild-Caught Fish are rich in Omega-3, but mercury levels also warrant attention; pregnant women and children should opt for low-food-chain species such as sardines and cod. Increasing consumer awareness is key to driving fishery transformation, and responsible consumption choices can promote the long-term health of marine resources.
